General Admission Requirements For University of California Berkeley

All of the courses you take to fulfill the requirements for your major must be taken for a letter grade, unless the course is only offered as Pass/No Pass

This is to ensure that you are being graded fairly and that your grades accurately reflect your performance in the course. Some courses may be offered as Pass/No Pass only, and there may be a few other exceptions to this rule.

In order to meet the requirements for your major, you must earn a grade of C- or higher in all courses related to your major. Any grades below a C- will not count towards your major requirements.

Applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0.

Applicants must complete a minimum of 30 upper division units in order to complete the Environmental Sciences major.

Of those 30 units, at least 15 must be taken from courses offered by the College of Natural Resources.

A total of 16 units of independent study can be applied towards your graduation requirements, with a maximum of 4 units per semester. In other words, you can’t take more than 4 units of independent study in any given semester, and a total of 16 units is the maximum that can count towards your degree.

At most, 1/3 of the units you take at UC Berkeley can be taken Pass/No Pass. This includes units taken through the Education Abroad Program, as well as units taken through the UC Intercampus Visitor or Exchange Programs.Up to 4 units of physical education courses will count towards your degree requirements.
